He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Architecture in 1974, earning a Bachelor's of Environmental Design with distinction. He has worked in architectural firms designing residential, commercial and public structures in Northern California since 1976, and has been a registered architect since 1982. In addition to his design experience, Steve has also worked as a carpenter on his own projects and for others. In 1985 Steve established an independent practice specializing in residential design, located in Nevada City.
She joined Steve as a design partner shortly after he started his own practice. In 1990, as the 3-dimensional CAD system (Computer Aided Drafting), began to replace the drafting staff, office and home were moved to the Sonoma/Mendocino coast. Now, a 2-person firm, their primary practice is local, but they still enjoy occasional projects out of the area
